I'm here in Mexico City, a trip booked during a particularly long stretch of grey days when a carrot (in the form of Contramar’s dessert tray for Valentine’s lunch) was needed. The temperature here right now is perfect - body temperature, like walking through bath water. The fluffy white ducks in the park have ruffled feathers that look like swans. There are rice pudding popsicles at the corner store. I came to Mexico City once before four years ago and loved it then, too. For this trip I was looking forward to revisiting a few spots and trying some I missed. Here are some highlights so far.
Dulcería de Celaya
Dulcería de Celaya is a romantic traditional Mexican sweets shop - opened in 1874 (and still with its original art nouveau stained glass sign), located in Centro Historico.
I was looking forward to visiting this trip because serendipitously a few weeks before I left, my friend Karen wrote to me that she was in Oaxaca and came across fruta cristalizada (crystallized fruit) and thought of me (I loved receiving this email).
