I will be sending out my ice cream tour of Mexico City soon - but first, the outfits:
I am adamant about carry-on only, no matter the length of trip. Here is my packing list for 8 days in pleasantly warm Mexico City, fitting in a standard carry-on and a large red zip-top LL Bean tote (long straps!):
I wanted to keep it very simple with pieces I could mix and match easily, mostly black, navy and white with a few bits of colour (pink, emerald green, a lighter blue) and my most trusted accessories.
Starting with this strawberry straw bag even though it was purchased on the last day (along with a Burberry plaid print market bag) at Mercado De Artesanias La Ciudadela, my favourite place to shop for souvenirs.
Now back to the beginning:
We arrived early afternoon on the day before Valentine’s Day - on the plane I wore my blue Lemaire denim suit with this cream Lemaire boatneck sweatshirt I bought years ago at a consignment store (plus my 80s/90s era gingham Bill Blass jacket slung over the arm). Upon arriving I immediately switched to these blue striped shorts (a lucky find one summer at Aberfoyle Antiques Market), my navy suede Manolo Blahnik pumps, kept the sweatshirt and added my emerald green Charvet belt (a favourite of mine and not just for travel). This was worn to go eat tacos at Tacos Orinico (+1 litre of agua fresca, please - a mix of guava and hibiscus which comes in a tin cup with lots of ice). Afterwards we went to one of my favourite places in CDMX, Mercado Jamaica, a sprawling flower market. It was so special to be here the day before Valentine’s Day, seeing everyone leave with their flowers. I was shy to take photos of the immaculately crafted arrangements, but they were abundant and beautiful. Another standout was the bouquets brimming with a mix of red roses and Ferrero Rochers!
