Micro-utopias for March
Silver Sweets, Silver Slippers, Exquisite Erotic Thrillers, Roses in a Cake Basket
Continuing on from January’s post about micro-utopias (highlights there: Ritz cracker paintings, roasted chicken in milk, a favourite poem, Joy Williams’ Taking Care), here are some small pleasures to consider for March:
Silver Sweets
If you find yourself in Jackson Heights may I recommend a visit to Maharaja Sweets (viewing the case is reason alone to go) to procure a box of confections covered with delicate sheets of silver leaf.
I had wanted to come here for so long, enchanted by the colours, shapes and the look of the silver leaf and I was not disappointed when I made the trip last time I was in NYC. Just as the the website promises, the shop is “an ambrosial assortment of treats with a jubilant aura.”
