Last year I had a running post on instagram, a monthly “diet” of things that had either occupied my thoughts, moved me in some way or just felt special enough to share; what I was reading, watching, eating, wearing and, sometimes, visual research that fit with the mood of the month. I am revisiting this series and expanding upon it here as a new monthly letter for paying subscribers (thank you!!!). If you missed last month’s, I wrote about cinnamon affogatos, Criterion 24/7 and A Room with A View, aspirational picnic scenes, spring vests, Eclipse Day reading and daffodils.
Some highlights from last year’s May diet: sailor shoes, lilac plate, wardrobe in Trouble Every Day, rice pudding with roasted rhubarb, favourite blue and capris, salad days, carrot cake two ways, apricot ducks, six apricot poodles.

Matching your outfit to your sandwich

Time for some COLOUR. Before I received this skirt (which reminds me of the colour of bright pea soup in the best way) I pictured wearing it with red. When it arrived I wasted no time in trying on the envisioned look and loved it, perfect for a warm spring day.
I coincidentally wore this outfit to a new coffee and sandwich shop near my house, MADE-RITE. I’m so happy this spot opened up - this visit I ordered the perfect BLT and a chewy banana-chocolate chip cookie. The atmosphere is so classic and friendly and everything is so delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try their Hollywood Club which is their BLT + a scoop of chicken salad.
Other recent looks:
A vintage pirate shirt, navy silk basketball shorts and navy suede pumps. The blouse I recently bought at Shoppu and plan to wear it all summer. The navy shorts are from Araks a few years ago and are a dream to wear and so fun to style. I wore this to a launch of a new perfume, Seduction Theory, a collaboration between friends Spa Boy and Universal Flowering <3 It smells like being in a field of jasmine while smoking a slim cigarette.
