My BFF Joe Silveira shared an editorial from the early aughts the other day entitled “en route to dressing right”. I was refreshed by the editorial itself (as I am with most everything Joe shares) but it is the title that has really stuck with me, rolling around in my head as a motto for Spring 2025.

As previously mentioned, I have basically been alternating between soft and crispy pajamas with some sweats peppered in here and there for the last four months (not to mention the 9 months before that). I’ve had enough and ready to transition.

Usually around this time of year, looking for a mood boost to get through the last dregs of winter, I perform the ritual of pulling out my spring clothes and trying on some new outfit combinations:

Shoulder Season Outfit Recipes

Hello and happy almost Spring. I’m ushering in the shoulder season (I love that expression) by pulling out my spring clothes and trying some new outfit recipes. If I need a creative lift or mood boost I find this ritual can often help. I also like to look at past outfit documentation to see what still feels right for where I’m at now. Although I don’t have a uniform (I really prefer to wear different combinations each day based on mood and current inspirations), I have certain pieces that I consistently gravitate towards year after year.

This year, although I am not quite ready for this spring tradition yet (new baby, new body), I am definitely feeling the spark to start DRESSING again. Below are some of my favourite spring looks and inspirations over the last 5 years to help inspire what will make sense for me in the coming months. En route to dressing right!

Three Spring Suits

I love wearing a full suit as an effortless look, and (especially in the case of the two Lemaire suits below) breaking them apart and wearing the separates almost daily in some combination.

Ah, early March 2020 - I bought this suit from Ewanika, from Trish’s in-house line (which is currently on pause - Trish please bring it back!). It was my first full suit and I got it to bring on a trip to Mexico City. I wore this to Café Tacuba and remember crying over the man I wanted to be with who I am now married to with a baby. I wore it again to the TIFF premiere of Joanna Hogg’s The Eternal Daughter with red lipstick and navy heels (spring suits are also autumn suits). Tilda Swinton and Joanna Hogg were there in conversation after the film - a good reminder to splurge on the premiere ticket price!
Here we have a Lemaire suit I bought in spring 2022. I wear the jacket all the time (the pants far less but they, like the jacket, are waterproof, so good for a rainy day set) and bring it on most trips. The blue shirt (my favourite colour of blue) is a men’s XL Charvet via TRR, a purchase from spring 2021. It has French cuffs but when I was in Paris last I bought the matching fabric cufflinks from Charvet. Shoes are Belgian Shoes and they make me feel so good every time I slip them on.
A full denim suit (also Lemaire, they usually have a version of this each season) that I bought in spring 2023. I snapped this picture the moment I received it, which made me realize I love how it looks with nothing on underneath. I wear both pieces all the time (and this spring looking forward to wearing it with the above French blue shirt!).

Stripes, Belts, Scarves, Dries

A spring favourite from 2023 - this red striped tunic is from Shoppu (sometimes she still carries these so keep your eye out - it’s a brand from Japan) and the scarf I’ve tied around my waist is from Vejas Maksimas (who sadly ended his label but I am a forever fan and treasure my special pieces from him! Swipe to slide two here to see the most amazing fringed leggings).
